Developing the Heart of a Winner

Someone recently asked me, “How do you maintain your heart for youth ministry?”  I pondered that question for a minute and my I quickly thought about Proverbs 3:4-6 {AMP}, which says “So shall you find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight [or judgment] of God and man. Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all you heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.” I told the frustrated youth worker that they’re here on purpose, designed and equipped for a particular function, but if their heart is not right with God, their purpose will not be fulfilled, thus their passion for youth ministry will quickly fade.

David shows the greatest example of a winner. He had wisdom, purpose, standards, leadership, talent, courage, strength, and success. But the one thing he had that made him a true winner was his heart. In 1 Samuel 13:14 the bible tells us, “The Lord sought for himself a man after his own heart.”  It is God’s desire for us to have access to His plan for us to have a winning life. Winning does not begin around you, it begins inside of you.  When your heart is right toward God, He will arrange situations, circumstances, and events and bring you in the company of the right people that are critical for my success in life.
